Did you know that there are a number of different immune system related diseases? Something like an allergy or asthma involves the immune system as does an autoimmune condition.
An autoimmune condition is the result of a hyperactive immune system that will attack normal body tissue instead of separating normal tissue from foreign invaders. It’s very important to treat immune system conditions before they turn into something worse. Here are some ways to make sure you are supporting immune health:
- Keep foods you are sensitive or allergic to out of your diet
- Reduce exposure to outdoor and indoor allergens
- Reduce stress
- Quit smoking if you smoke, and reduce alcohol intake
- Exercise regularly but don’t overdo it
Chances are you are familiar with some of the reasons the immune system is so important. This system is made up of a network of cells as well as tissues and organs that all help to protect our body. When the immune system works as it should, it can help protect the body from disease and can differentiate between a foreign invader and one’s own body tissue.
Tip #1: Try Coconut
Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid which can help strengthen the immune system. Try adding a tablespoon of coconut oil to your daily smoothie.
Tip #2: Add Mushrooms to Your Diet
Mushrooms are one of the most powerful immune boosting foods and are rich in Vitamins B, C, fiber, and other important vitamins and minerals. Mushrooms also contain beta-glucans which can help support the immune system.
Tip #3: Enjoy Herbs & Spices With Your Food
Spice your food up while also strengthening your immune system. Many herbs and spices have high ORAC scores. ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and measures the antioxidant properties of different foods. Try adding things like garlic, turmeric, oregano, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper to your diet.
For this week’s challenge, I challenge you to incorporate some immune-boosting foods into your diet:
