Stress is something that affects us all.
It doesn’t matter whether you have the best friends, the most supportive family, a great job, and lots of enjoyable hobbies, stress is unavoidable. Therefore, it’s important to know the effects of stress and also, how to combat them to keep yourself both happy and healthy.
Common physical effects of stress include:
- Muscle pain
- Chest pain
- Low sex drive
- Stomach problems
- Sleep issues
Whilst common mental effects of stress include:
- Anger and irritability
- Feeling overwhelmed/emotional
- Lack of focus
- Lack of motivation
Most of these you may have already known from personal experience. However, what you may not know are some techniques for helping your mood to make yourself less stressed and more emotionally capable in general.
Meditation is an obvious one that many people hear about but don’t try or don’t stick to. Mindfulness really helps you to become in tune with your brain and your emotional state so that you can recognise bad mental states quicker and deal with them better.
Another good tip is to get a good night of sleep. Often, we get so stressed that sleep takes a backseat. However, this can severely affect our mental capabilities and cognition for the day and the days going forward.
